Now in its third year, the Deloitte’s “Women @ Work: A Global Outlook” report, exploring the experiences of 5,000 working women across 10 countries, makes for some very interesting reading.
Rates of burnout have dropped. Non-inclusive behaviours have declined. And women are reporting more positive experiences with hybrid work. But despite some improvements over the past year, many women are still not getting what they want or need from their employers.
The challenge is that Gender Equality Leaders remain few and far between
Gender Equality Leaders are organisations that, according to the responses of the women surveyed, foster inclusive cultures that support them and promote mental well-being – and only 5% of respondents report working for Gender Equality Leaders.
Women who work for Gender Equality Leaders continue to report more positive mental health, are more likely to recommend their employer to others, have a working pattern that they are happy with, and are less likely to experience non-inclusive behaviours.
They are also less likely to work through symptoms relating to menstruation and menopause.
These women all plan to stay longer with their employer — none of the women surveyed who work for Gender Equality Leaders were looking for a new role and nearly 70% plan to stay with their current employer for three years or more.
So with International Women’s Day (IWD) right around the corner on the 8th March, 2024, how will your organisation be celebrating women’s achievements or focusing on creating inclusive workplace culture which truly supports women?
The IWD 2024 campaign theme is Inspire Inclusion; as when we inspire others to understand and value women’s inclusion, we forge a better world. And when women themselves are inspired to be included, there’s a sense of belonging, relevance and empowerment.
If your organisation is interested in aligning to this year’s IWD themes, PCA is on hand to support you by facilitating online or in-person short workshops that day/week on topics such as:
- “How to Present Like TED”
- “Empowering Women: Strategies for Influence and Impact”
- “Make yourself Heard – Confidence at work”
- “My Leadership Manifesto”
- “Boost your brand”
- “Build your Personal Boardroom: Strategic Networking”
Furthermore, it’s worth remembering that this isn’t just about “developing women”, but also about creating a culture where women can thrive and perform to the best of their abilities. To achieve this, it’s often beneficial to include everyone and so that your people feel informed and accountable. If this is of interest we can facilitate workshops for mixed or male cohorts on subjects such as: “Allyship in Action: Above the Line” and “Building Belonging”.
